Minnesota Area Code 924

A new area code along with 10 digit dialing for locall calls is coming to Southern Minnesota starting next year in August. Area code 507, serving cities such as Balaton, Hanley Falls, Mankato, Rochester or Winona and currently among the few remaining USA numbering plan areas to use 7 digit dialing for local calling, is in need of a so called relief method. This basically means that phone number combinations in area code 507 are close to exhaustion therefore a new numbering plan area code 924 will be overlaid on NPA 507. As a result, dialing just the 7 digit local number will no longer be possible when connecting locally in this area.

Key dates

• January 30, 2024 - permissive 7/10 digit dialing begins (local calls within NPA 507 borders may be dialed using 7 or 10 digits)
• July 30, 2024 - 10 digit dialing becomes mandatory
• August 30, 2024 - new area code 924 enters service
