Canadian provinces Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island are currently served by area code 902. As a relief method for this NPA the new area code 782 will be introduced on November 30, 2014 to cover the exact same region. As a result 10 digit dialing will become mandatory for all national calls originating within any of the two provinces (local calls included) starting November 30, 2014. There will also be a permissive 10 digit dialing period starting August 23, 2014. During the permissive period local calls will work either by dialing 7 or 10 digits.
See Official announcement and map of the new overlay complex 902/782 (PDF document).
