The suburban areas to the northeast and southwest of the city of Cleveland, Ohio, currently using area code 440 will, starting in March 2024, have a new overlay NPA which is going to also serve this geographic area. The new area code 436 will enter service on March 1, 2024. Currently, calls in the area can be dialed using this numbering plan: 10 digits for local calls and 1+10 digits for toll calls. This dialing plan will not change with the introduction of the new Numbering Plan Area 436.
Some of the town and cities currently using area code 440 and soon to use area code 436: Ashtabula, Broadview Heights, Grafton, Lorain, Elyria, Mentor or Rocky River.
