A new area code was approved by the Tennessee Regulatory Authority on October 23, 2013 as the relief method for existing NPA 615 serving a portion of nothern Tennessee with cities such as Gallatin, Murfreesboro or Nashville. The new 629 NPA will cover the same towns and cities of TN and will enter service on March 28, 2015.
Residents of these areas will soon be able to dial local calls only by using 10 digit dialing. Currently both 7 and 10 digit dialing may be used until February 28, 2015.
