A new area code will be activated in 2014 as a relief plan for NPA 812 serving the southern part of Indiana (Bloomington, Evansville, Terre Haute..). The new area code 930 will be activated on October 6, 2014. A permissive 10 digit dialing period will be introduced on March 1, 2014. During this permissive period local calls in the area covered by existing area code 812 will be dialed by using either 7 or 10 digit dialing (the latter is encouraged). The end of the permissive period is September 6 - this is the date when 10 digit dialing becomes mandatory for all local calls in this area.
See Official announcement and map of the new overlay complex 812/930 (PDF document).
Area code 930's activation has been postponed for March 7, 2015. Read the Official announcement by NANPA (PDF doc).
