New South Carolina Area Code 821

The Northern part of South Carolina currently using area code 864 will start using a second, overlay area code from August 2024. The new 821 NPA will cover the exact same geographic area, including cities such as Arcadia, Boiling Springs, Greenville or Spartanburg. 10 digit dialing is also coming to this area of South Carolina with the new area code's introduction.

Key dates

• January 19, 2024 - permissive 7/10 digit dialing begins (calls within NPA 864 can be dialed using both 7 and 10 digits)
• July 19, 2024 - mandatory 10 digit dialing begins
• August 19, 2024 - new area code 821 enters service
